Welcome to the 2012 Assdance Film Festival!

Founded by Lower East Side underground filmmakers and artists Courtney Fathom Sell, Reverend Jen, Robert Prichard and Tom Tenney, the Assdance Film Festival is a celebration of unwanted cinema: a collection of short films rejected by other film festivals. In fact, the only requirement for getting into Assdance is a rejection letter from another festival. The title of the festival, which derives from the production company founded by Sell and Reverend Jen under the name ASS Studios (Art Star Scene Studios) is both an homage and a sarcastic slap on the back to all the other 'dances' which have populated and possibly polluted the independent film world over the years. With Assdance, we hope to bring rejected cinema to the forefront of the underground film world.

Taking place during one week in May, Assdance will not only present lots o' movies, but will also host a slew of wild parties, concerts, and events that best capture the spirit of no-budget filmmaking. Hosting events at Lower East Side venues such as the Bowery Poetry Club, 2A, Cake Shop and many others, Assdance will feature performances by some of downtown's most influential performers, all the while giving a platform to outsider filmmakers who feel it necessary to push on with their work, even after a slew of rejection letters and the crippling depression that comes along with them. Assdance will wrap up its festivities with an explosive closing night party celebrating the upcoming DVD release of 'ASS Studios presents 4 Films', distributed worldwide through MVD Entertainment. The closing night party, to take place at the Bowery Poetry Club, will feature an award ceremony identifying some of the best-of-the-fest films, live performances by legendary New York City bands, and a surprise honorary lifetime achievement presentation. Cash prizes and one of a kind awards will be distributed to the winners of Assdance by some of the key figures in New York underground cinema history.

Overall, the Assdance Film Festival hopes to give hope to aspiring filmmakers who feel discouraged or disheartened by the brutal politics of the film festival circuit. At Assdance, each film will be given equal opportunity to win audiences over, and certainly given full support by festival-goers seeking something new, exciting and of course rejected! Assdance will work alongside numerous Lower East Side businesses in order to show our support and respect for the neighborhood that has so patiently allowed us to use it as our playground and sound stage

After only a year since their launch, ASS Studios (founded by Courtney, Reverend Jen, and Faceboy) will finally see worldwide distribution with the upcoming and highly anticipated release of their first official DVD. The DVD, which includes 4 short films (The Sinful Bitches, The Bitches of Bowery, Elf Workout, and Killer Unicorn) will be made available everywhere through MVD Entertainment. The DVD also includes many special features such as the music video 'Lost' by 'Diamonsnake' directed by Courtney and a whole lot more! The DVD will be available in the Spring of 2012 with a huge release party being planned and coinciding with the first ever ASSDANCE Film Festival. More info will be posted soon.
